James Patterson & Wife To James Gillespie
Deed for 232 acres lands
This Indenture made this eighth day of January in the eleventh year of American
Independence & in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven
Between James Patterson and Jane his wife of the Town of Fayetteville of the one part
and James Gillespie of the County of Duplin of the other part witnesseth, that for and
in consideration of the sum of one hundred & twenty pounds current money of the State
of North Carolina to the said James Patterson well & truly paid by the said James
Gillespie at & before the ensealing & delivering of these presents, the receipt & payment
whereof the said James Patterson doth hereby acknowledge & thereof & of every part and
parcel thereof doth exonerate acquit & discharge the said James Gillespie his heirs
executors administrators & assigns & every of them forever, by these presents they the
said James Patterson & wife Jane, have & each of them hath granted bargained sold aliend
conveyed & confirmed unto the said James Gillespie his heirs and assigns forever, all
that tract or parcel of land on the east side of the No. East branch of Cape Fear River
near the mouth of Limestone on Maple branch, Begining at a pine thence North thirteen
degrees Et. thirty one chains fifty links to a stake, thence north eighty five degrees
East twenty six chains to maple branch, thence up the branch seventy chains to a pine
on the north side of the branch, thence along said line South eighty six degrees west
sixty six chains to the first station containing two hundred & thirty two acres of land
be the same more or less with the appurtenances situate lying & being in Duplin County
aforesaid, with their and every of their rights members & appurtenances whatsoever,
which said land and premises and part of a larer tract of land granted by his late
Majesty King George the second, by letters patent bearing date the seventh day of May
in the year one thousand seven hundred & fifty four to John Brock, & the premises
conveyed by the said John Brock to Francis Brice to Francis Brice to David Michell,
by David Mitchell to John Bunting, & by John Bunting to William Ward late husband of
the said Jane Patterson, as by the said patent & deeds registered in the Office of
Duplin County may more fully & at large appear & the revertion & remainder of all and
singular the said lands hereditaments & premises hereby granted & of every part & parcel
thereof, & all rents services & profits to them or any of them or any part or parcel of
them, or any of them incidenly belonging or appertaining and also all and every the
estate rights titles interest claim & demands whatsoever of them the said James Patterson
& Jane his wife into or out of the said lands heriditaments & premises & every part and
parcel thereof. To have & to hold the said lands hereidtaments & all & other the
premises hereby granted bargained & sold & every part and parcel thereof with their &
every of their appurtenances unto the said James Gillespie his heirs and assigns forever,
to the only proper use & behoof of him the said James Gillespie his heirs & assigns forever,
& the said James Patterson doth hereby grant for him & his heirs that the said James
Patterson & his heirs the lands hereditaments & premises & all and singular the premises
hereby granted or mentioned to be granted & every part and parcel thereof, with all and
singular their rights members & appurtenances unto the said James Gillespie his heirs &
assigns against him the said James Patterson & his heirs & assigns & against all and every
person & persons whatsoever, free and clear off & from all manner of incumbrance, taxes
only excepted, shall & will warrant & defend the said two hundred & thirty two acres of
land hereby sold to him the said James Gillespie his heirs and assigns forever. In witness
whereof the said parties hath hereunto set their hand & seals the day & year first above
written.

Then was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of Joseph T. Rhodes & ordered

she was properly satisfied with the sale of the lands mentioned in the within deed.
