James Morris To William Dickson
Lease 100 acres
This Indenture made the ninth day of February in the Eleventh year of the American Independence,
and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven, Between James Morris of the County
of Duplin and State of No. Carolina of the one part and William Dickson of the same place of the other part,
Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the Rents and covenants herein after Reserved and contained on
the part and behalf of the said William Dickson his Executors and administrators, to be paid kept, and performed,
he the said James Morris hath Demised, granted and to farmletted and by these presents, doth Demise, grant,
& to Farmlett, unto the said William Dickson in Trust for and for the use of Joseph Williams of the County
of Duplin aforesaid all that Messuage or Tenement of Land and Plantation situated lying and being in the
County of Duplin aforesaid on the South side of the head of Bear swamp including part of the Plantation
whereon the said James Morris now and being the same place whereon the said Joseph Williams now lives,
Beginning at a Sweet gum on old corner tree Standing on the north side of the Run of of Bear Swamp and on
the west side of the main Road and Runs thence up the branch a straight line to a walnut tree in the field
on the north side of the Branch thence a straight line to the fork of the said Branch by the upper end of
the field and thence up the run of the South fork of the said branch as it Meanders to the back line of said
James Morris’s Land, and thence along his back line South wardly till it crosses the main Road and thence
along the Road to the first station containing by Estimation one hundred acres be it more or less, including
the House and Plantation whereon the said Joseph Williams now lives, with and Singular the Profits commodities
and appurtenances, to the said Messuage or Tenement belonging or appertaining. To have and to hold the said
Messuage or Tenements, and all & Singular the premises with their of their appurtenances, herein before
mentioned, or intended to be hereby Demised unto the said William Dickson his Executors administrators or
assigns, in trust for the said Joseph Williams, from the Day of this Date, for and during the Term of the
life of Mary Williams his wife them or the S____ of them and no longer, for the only proper use and benefit
of the said Joseph Williams and Mary Williams only, they yielding and paying therefore yearly and every year
during the Term of the life of the said Joseph Williams and the life of Mary Williams his wife or the of them
as aforesaid, unto the said James Morris his Executors Administrators or assigns, the Rent or sum of one
shilling Current Money, to be paid on the first day of January next and yearly afterwards during the Term
aforesaid, and the said James Morris for himself his Executors administrators and assigns doth covenant and
grant to and with the said Williams Dickson his Executors administrators and assigns, in Trust for the said
Joseph Williams, that he the said Joseph Williams and Mary his wife, paying the said yearly Rent of one shilling
above Reserved in manner aforesaid , and performing all and every the Covenants and agreements herein before
mentioned which on his or their parts or behalfs, are or ought to be paid done and performed shall and may
peaceably and quietly have, hold, use occupy, possess and enjoy, the said tenements, and premises, hereby
Demised, for and during the term hereby granted, without any let, suit, Trouble, or Interruption of him the
said James Morris his Executors administrators or assigns or any of them, or by any other person or persons
Lawfully claiming or to claim, by from or under him them or any of them, or through his or their or any of
their acts, means or procurements. In witness whereof the said James Morris hath hereunto set his hand and
seal the Day and Date first above written.
