To Hampton Sullivan For Negro Pheby Know all men by these presents that I James M Middleton having been appointed a commissioner by the Court by the Court of Please and quarter sessions for Duplin County at April term 1837 agreeably to the Petition of David Thally to sell & divide the property of David Thally assignee of Wright Hunter and Redmond L. Stanley and Nicholas Hunter Court ward of James Dickson and John Hunter Ward of David Norman in a certain Negro Woman called Pheby upon giving 30 days Notice in two or more Publick places previous to the day of Sale to take bond from the purchaises with approved securities before the property is delivered and make Report under hand and seal to the next term of this court did in pursuance of said appointment after giving 30 days Notice in two or more publick places previous to the day of sale proceed to sell at the Court House in Kenansville on the 18th day of may 1837 the aforesaid Negro woman Pheby when & where Hampton Sullivan became the purchaiser being the last & best bidder at the sum of two Hundred and fifty dollars and the said Hampton Sullivan having entered into bond for the payment of the said Sum with William H. Hansley & Charles McIntire as his securities therefore I the said James M. Middleton commissioner as aforesaid for and in consideration of the said above named sum of money secured to be paid do by these presents so far as I am authorised by virtue of the said appointment warrant and forever defend the Right and title of the above named Negro woman Pheby to him the said Hampton Sullivan his heirs Executors Administrators and assighn Witness my hand and seal as commissioner this 19th day of May AD 1837 J.
