James Love To John B. Shepherd
Deed for 100 acres lands
This indenture made the tenth day of March in the third year of American Independence
and in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & seventy nine between James Love
of the State of North Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part, and John Baptist Shepherd of
the same place of the other part. Witnesseth that he the said James Love for and in
consideration of the sum of ten pounds current money of the State of North Carolina to him in
hand well & truly paid or secured to be paid by John Baptist Shepherd aforesaid befor the
ensealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the said James Love doth hereby
acknowledge himself to be therewith fully satisfied contented & paid & of every part and parcel
thereof doth by these presents acquit and forever discharge the said John B. Shepherd his heirs
& assigns forever, hath by these presents given granted bargained sold aliend enfeoffed conveyed
confirmed & set over to the said John B. Shepherd his heirs and assigns forever, all that tract
or parcel of land situate lying and being in the State & County aforesaid on the head braches of
Maple Swamp a Branch of Goshen swamp, joining said Love's own land Patrick Stewart Andrew Willson
He. McCulloch and Felix Kenan's lines. Begining at a hickory his own corner on Patrick Stewarts
line and runs SO. 35 Et. 30 pole to a stake on Andrew Willsons line, thence on or near to his
line So. 55 Wt. 257 pole, thence No. 35 Wt. 28 pole, thence by Mr. McCullich's line No. 55 Et.
130 pole, thence by Felix Kenan's line So. 35 Et. 30 poles to said Love's own line, thence as
his own line So. 55 Wt. 100 poles to his corner called a white oak in the paten, thence So. 35
Et. 227 pole to a pine in a swamp, his corner, thence as his other line No. 55 Et. 227 to the
begining, being the contents of a paten granted to the said James Love bearing date the fourth
day of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy five, containing in the whole one hundred
acres be the same more or less. To have & to hold the aforesaid bargained land and premises
with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appurtaining of every nature or
kind whatsoever to him the said John Baptist Shepherd his heirs and assigns forever, to them
and their only proper use benefit and & behoofe & the said James Love the aforesaid bargained
land & premises doth hereby warrent & secure to him the said John Baptist Shepherd his heirs &
assigns forever, from & against him the said James Love his heirs and assigns as also from and
against the clame or claims of every other person or persons whatsoever who may hereafter lay
clame to the same ( except any part of the said land and premises should be under cover of some
prior paten) and the said John Baptist Shepherd his heirs and assigns the aforesaid bargained
land and premises shall and may have hold use occupie enjoy & possess as his own free and
lawfull inheritance, free from all incumbrance given or granted by him the said James Love or
any other person by from or under him. In witness whereof the said James Love hath hereunto
set his hand & seal the date above written.
