James Lockhart To Nicholas Hunter
Deed for 612 acres of lands
State of No. Carolina. To all to whom these presents shall come. I James Lockhart
of Duplin County send greeting oc Know ye that I the said James Lockhart for and in consideration
of the sum of fifty five pounds current money of the aforesaid State to me in hand paid at and
before the ensealing and delivery of these presents by Nicholas Hunter of the aforesaid County
and State the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have given granted bargained and sold,
and by these presents do give grant bargain and sell unto the said Nichols. Hunter a certain
tract of parcel of land in the aforesaid county contaiing by estimation six hundred and twelve
acres be the same more or less sititate lying and being on the west side of the North East
Branch of Cape Fear on the back of widow Burton's land opposite the mouth of Limestone creek.
Begining at a pine on the south side of Persimon swamp about a mile from the River runing So.
35 Et. 320 pole to a stake in the great pocosin thence So. 55 Wt. 280 pole to a pine (near
Jacob Hanchey's land) thence No. 35 Wt. 320 pole to a pine in the fork of a small branch thence
down the branch to persimmon swamp, and down the meander thereof to the bbeginin the tract of
land patened to John Rutherford Esqr. bearing date the twenty eighth day of October one
thousand seven hundred and sixty five & recorded in the Secretary's office. To have and to
hold the said six hundred and twelve ares be the same more or less together with all the houses
adifices orchards, trees fences and all and singular the appertenances to the same belonging or
in any wise appertaining unto the said Nicholas Hunter his heirs & assigns forever, and I the
said James lockhart for myself my heirs executors & administrators do covenant promise & agree
to and with the said Nicholas Hhunter his heirs executors administrators and assigns in manner
following, that is to say, that he the said Nicholas Hunter his heirs executors administrators
and assigns shall and may from time to time & at all times hereafter, have hold and peaebly
enjoy the prebargained premises and appertenances without the let or molestation of any person
or persons whatsoeer and that the same is free and clear of all dower charges & incumbrance
whatsoever the assessment and taxes by law along & excepted. In witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand & seal this 11th day of September Anno Domini 1784.
