(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 362 & 363 James Herring To Anne Herring Deed of Gifts for Negroes No. Carolina Duplin County Know all men by these presents that I James Herring Senior Being in my proper helth and sinces and for the natural Love and affection I have and do bear and for the better maintainces of the same for his Daughter Ann and his Sons Bryan James and Lewis Williams Herring I have and doth hereby Deliver and absolutely give unto my Daughter Ann four negroes Sall David York and Abram one mare and one Bed which is particular Delivered with the Negroes—also unto my Son Bryan two negroes Named Frank and Ginney and the Quarter Plantation and all the Land belonging to it that Kenan formerly sold to Houseman and one M are which now Delivered also unto James Herring Junior two negroes named Lewsy and Charles three cows and Calves one Bed which is all Delivered and Six head of sheep and one Gray horse and also unto my Son Lewis Williams two negroes named Tamer and Tuash and the Plantation I now live on and all the Land Belonging to it and three hundred acres of Land Lying on Sandy Run one Bed and furniture three Cows and Calves and one mare Six head of Sheep which now Delivered and the same to each and Either of them I do hereby freely and absolutely give them as above mentioned Clear of any Claims or Demand of any person or persons whatsoever and Each and Either of them have from this time full possession of all and Singular as heretofore mentioned and that I do forever hereafter warrant secure and forever Defend the same Clear of any Rights Titles Claims or Demands of any person whatsoever Given under my hand and Seal April the 17th day 1789. Signed sealed and Delivered James Herring in presence of us Owen D’Daniel Ruben Weston Rugen Diver State of No. Carolina October Term 1791 Duplin County Then was the within Deed proved in open Court by the oath of Ruben Weston and ordered to be Registered.
