James Gillispie To William McGowen
Deed for 11 1/4 acres
This Indenture made this Eleventh day of November in the tenth year of American
Independence and in the year of our Lord 1785 Between William McGowen of the state of No.
Carolina and County of Duplin of the one part and James Gillispie of the same State and
County of the other part Witnesseth that the said James Gillispie for and in consideration
of the sum of six acres and one Quarter of an acres conveyed by the said William McGowan
to the said James Gillispie of this day and Date the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged
and himself therewith content hath given granted Bargained sold aliened Enfeoffed conveyed
confirmed assigned and set over unto the said William McGowen his Heirs and assigns forever
a certain tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in Duplin County aforesaid on the
south side of Fredricks Mill Branch begining at a white oak water oak and Ashe at the Run of
the branch thence along a line of marked trees that divides this from the Lands of William
Fredrick So. 35 Et. 220 poles to a stake by a large pine thence Et. 10 poles to a stke thence
No. 35 Wt. to the Run of the Mill branch & up the run as it Meanders to the Begining containing
by Estimation Eleven acres and one quarter of an acre being part of a Tract of land sold by
Henry E. McCuloch to the Revd. Hugh McCaden by Deed of bargain and sale bearing date the eighth
day of April 1762 and conveyed tot he said James Gillispie by the said Hugh McCaden by Deed of
sale bearing date the seventh day of Febuary 1774 Reference being had to said Deeds may more
fully appear. To havew and to hold the said Bargained Lands and premises with the appurtainances
unto the said William McGowen His Heirs and assigns forever in as full and ample manner as
he the said James Gillispie by his deed might or could Enjoy without the Cost let hindrance
Molistation or Interruption of him the said James Gillispie his heirs or assigns and that free
and clear freely and clearly acquited of and from all former or other gifts grants bargains
sales leases wills mortgages intails jointures judgements Executions Extents Troubles or
Incumbrances whatsoever had made done or committed by him the said James Gillispie his heirs
and assigns and the said James Gillispe doth hereby further covenant and Engage to warrant and
defend the said William McGowen his heirs and assigns in the quit and peaceable possession of
the said Lands and premises From and against the Lawfull or just claim or Demand of him the
said James Gillispie his heirs or assigns or any other person or persons whatsoever In Witness
whereof the said James Gillisped hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first
written
