(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 12 Page 31, & 32 James Evans To James Maxwell Deed fof 257 acres land This Indenture made the twenty third day of march in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred and thirty nine Between James Maxwell of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin of the one part and James Evans of th same ounty & State of the other part witnesseth that I the said James Evans hath for and inconsideration of the sum two hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said James Maxwell hath bargained and sold and set over one certain tract of land lying & being in the County of Duplin aforesaid on the south side of Stockinghead Swamp Begin at an ash on the run of Stocking head swamp thence with John Whiteheads line So 31 wt 156 poles to a pine in the head of the Big Pond thence No 3 Et 86 pole to a gum Grahams corner thence No 66 Et 38 poles to a stake thence No 17 Et 54 poles to a stake on the run of stocking head thence down with the meanders of said RUn to the begining containing by estimation to be two hundred and fifty acres be the same more or less all of which said lands the aforesaid James Evans do warrant & defend unto the said James Maxwell to him & to his Heirs forever from me & my heirs and assigns forever and from the Lawfull claims of any persons whatsoever know to be the plantation whereon James Evans deceased formerly lived In witness I the said James Evans have hereunto set myhand and affixed my seal date above signed sealed & delivered in presence of A Maxwell B Chasten Senr James Evans State of North Carolina Duplin County Court of please and Quarter Sessions July term 1839 The Execution of the within deed is duly proved in open Court by the oath of Achabold Maxwell one of the subscribing witnesses thereto & is ordered to be registered Copy N Routledge Rgr Test James Dickson Clk
