James Ellis To Benjamin Lanier
Deed for 100 acres lands
This indenture made the twenty first day of January one thousand seven hundred and
eighty six between James Ellis of Duplin County and State of No. Carolina planter of the one
part & Benjamin Lanier of the other party send greeting. Know ye that i the said James Ellis
for & consideration of fifty pounds specie to me in hand paid or secured to be paid before the
ensealing & delivery hereof unto the said Benjamin Lanier of the County & province of the
aforesaid, habe bargained sold and conveyed enfeoffed and assigned set over unto Benjamin Lanier
a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred acres lying & being in the County of
Duplin for our State and province of No. Carolina on the north side of Cypress Creek & both sides
of the the Great Branch. Begining at a pine at the side of Cypress Creek swamp opposite Parker
peares land the same begin patened by suring John Halso runing No. 30 Et. 140 pole to a pine
saplin thence No. 60 Wt. crossing the great Branch 110 pole to a pine sapling, thence So. 30 Wt.
150 pole to cypress creek swamp and thence up the swamp to the begining. To have and to hold
the said land with all its improvements & previledges tot he same belonging to or otherwise
appurtaining to him the said Benjamin Lanier his heirs and assigns forever, & that the said
James Ellis at the ensealing and delivering of these presents hath a good right & lawfull
authority to bargain and sell the same in manner as above unto the said Benjamin Lanier his
heirs executors administrators doth further promise & warrent that the said land and premises
is free and clear from the lawfull clames clamings dowries or demands of any persons whatsoever
and the same will warrent and secure & defend unto Benjamin Lanier his heirs and assigns for
ever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the date above
mentioned.

Then was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of John Lanier & ordered
