(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 12 Page 175, & 176 James B Williams to Benj Lanier Deed 105 acres land This Indenture made this Twenty third day of March in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred & thirty nine Between James B Williams of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin of the one part & Benjamin Lanier of the same State & County of the other part and Benjamin Lanier of the same State & County of the other part witnesseth that the said James B Williams for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and Twenty Dollars to him in hand paid the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained & sold untot he said Benjamin Lanier a certain tract or parcil of Land lying & being in the County of Duplin one tract begining at a stake in muddy Creek & runs thence South 80 wt 120 poles to a Stake thence South 10 wt 25 poles to a stake thence North 82 wt 110 poles to a stake & thence to the Begining containing twenty five acres be the same more or Less also one other tract Begining at a black gum on the Run of Bushes Branch and runs No 26 Et 29 poles thence south 82 Et 110 poles to a stake thenc south 10 wt 6 poles to a Holly on the Run of Bushes Branch thence down the Run of said Branch to the Begining containing Twenty five acres or all my right to the said Twenty five acres more or Less also one other piece or parcil of Land Begining at a holly & water oak at the Run of Bushes Branch on Joab Thigpens line & runing with said line so 60 wt 29 poles to a pine Thigpens corner thence along his other line so 73 1/2 wt 29 poles to a forked white oak at the head of alittle miery Branch thence down the Branch about No 70 wt 86 poles to a stake on or near Farriors line then along that line No 30 Et 51 poles to a black gum at or near the mouth of Bushes Branch thence up the run of said Branch as it meanders to the begining containing By estimation fifty five acres more or Less all of my Right be the same more or Less to him the said Benjamin Lanier to have & to hold the above described land and premises free and clear from the claims of my self my heirs Executors administrators or assigns & from & against the Lawfull & just claim of any person or persons whatsoever in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & fixed my seal day and first above written signed sealed & delivered in the presents of us Eli Obid Scarborough Clary Smith James B Williams State of North Carolina Duplin County Court of please & Quarter Sessions January term 1840 The Execution of the within deed is duly proved in open Court by the oath of Obid Scarborough one of the subscribing witnesses thereto & is ordered to be registered Test Jas Dickson Clk Copy N Routledge Rgr
