(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 440, & 441 Jacob Mathews To John Mathews Deed for 190 acres lands This indenture made this eighth day of October in the year of our Christ one thousand seven hundred & eighty seven. Between Jacob Mathews of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin planter, of the one part, & John Mathews of the same place of the other part Witnesseth, that the said Jacob Mathews for divers good causes & considerations him thereunto moving, but more especially for the valuable consideration of the sum of twenty pounds lawfull money to him in hand well & truly paid by John Mathews aforesaid, the receipt of the same whereof he the said Jacob Mathews doth hereby acknowledge himself to be then with fully satisfied contented & paid & of every part and parcel thereof doth hereby acquit and forever discharge the said John Mathews his heirs & assigns forever, & hath by these presents given granted bargained sold & forever confirmed to the said John Mathews, one certain tract or parcel of land, situate lying & being in the State & County afoaresaid, on the So. Et. side of Stuarts Creek & both sides of Miller's Mill swamp, one hundred & ninety acres of land. Begining at a cypress on the north side of said swamp Arthur Mathew;s corner, thence crossing the Creek So. 46 poles to a pine, his corner of another survey, thence Wt. 50 poles to a white oaki his corner, thence along David Tucker's line So. 180 poles to a pine on the edge of a clear run branch, thence up said Branch by various courses with said Tucker's line 160 poles to a pine by the branch head, thence No. 10 Et. 74 poles to a pine on the edge of the said Hill branch thence down said Branch No. 5 Wt. 206 pole to a stake no. side of Miller's swamp, thence to the begining, & containing one hundred ninety acres be the same more or less, being the contents of a patent granted to Jacob Mathews bearing date the tenth day of November one thousand seven hundred and eighty four, as patent doth appear, which said bargained land & premises he the said Jacob Mathews doth hereby warrant & defend to him the said John Mathews, his heirs and assigns forever, free and clear from all former gifts grants judgments intails dowers or any other incumbrance given or granted by him the said Jacob Mathews & he the said John Mathews the above said land and premises shall and may have hold use occupie enjoy & possess, as his own free and lawfull inheritance, free from all manner of incumbrances whatsoever, except the taxes yearly laid on land by the General Assembly hereafter due on lands & he the said Jacob Mathews the above bargained land & premises, shall & will warrant and forever defend unto him the said John Mathews his heirs and assigns forever, from & against him the said Jacob Mathews his heirs executors administrators & assigns as also from & against the just and lawful claim or claims of any other person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof he the said Jacob Mathews hath hereunto set his hand & fixed his seal the day & year first above written. Jacob Mathews Signed sealed & delivered in the presents of us John Evans Jas. Wilson State of No. Carolina Duplin County October Term 1787.
