(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 150, & 151 Henry Hollingsworth To Hardy Carroll Deed for 196 acres This indenture made this 25th day of March & in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty five between Henry Hollingsworth of the County of Sampson and State of North Carolina of the one part, and Hardy Carroll of the County of Duplin and State aforesaid of the other part Witneseth , that the said Henry Hollingsworth for and in consideration of the sum of eighty pounds specie to me in hand paid by Hardy Carroll the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge that I am therewith fully satisfied contented and paid & do by these presents acquit and discharge the said Hardy Carroll his heirs executors administrators or assignsa and by these give grant bargain sell & set over to the said Hardy Carroll his heirs exrs. admin. or assigns a certain tract or parcel of land, sittuate lying and being on both sides of Stewarts creek and in Duplin County. Begining at a pine then runing along the giving line of the pattent to a branch called Enzons branch, thence down the said branch as it meanders to Stewarts Creek and across said Creek a straight course to a stake on the patent line (agreeed) corner, thence No. to a pine a corner tree, thence No. 45 Et. 46 pole to a red oak and Hickory, thence No. 14 Wt. 120 poles to a pine thence So. 65 Wt. 140 pole to the begining, containing by estimation one hundred and ninety six acres of land, be the same more or less. To have and to hold the said bargained premises with all buildings improvements priviledged advantages or benefits to the same land of any kind whatsoever or in any wise appurtaining unto the said Hardy Carroll his heirs and assigns forever, and I the said Henry Hollingsworth me my heirs and executors administrators or assigns, do covenant promise and agree to and with the said Hardy Carroll his heirs executors admin. and assigns in manner and form as following. Viz. that the said Hardy Carroll his heirs executors admin. and assigns shall & may from time to time and at all times hereof to quietly and peacebly have hold use occupy possess and enjoy the bargained premises and every part and parcet thereof freely and clearly from all incumbrances whatsoever and I the said Henry Hollingsworth do by these presents me my heirs executors administrators or assigns do covenant promise & agree to and with the said Hardy Carroll his heirs executors admin. or assigns the bargained premises with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging from the lawful claim of any person or persons whatsoever and I will warrant & defend by these presents. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written. Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of us Charles Merrit James Hollingsworth Arthur Mathews State of No. Carolina, Duplin County, January Court 1785.
