Hardy Powell To Joseph Stringfield
Deed for 400 acres lands
This indenture made the 27th day of October in the year of our Lord 1803, by and
between Hardy Powell Senr. of the County of Duplin in the State of No. Carolina planter,
on the one part, and Joseph Stringfield of the said County and State on the other part.
Witnesseth, that the said Hardy Powell for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred
and fifty pounds to him paid by Joseph Stringfield, the receipt whereof the said Hardy
Powell doth hereby acknowledge, have granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth
give convey & forever confirm, unto said Joseph Stringfield his exers. adminns. and assigns
forever, four hundred acres of land in the County aforesaid, contained in three tract one
of which contain 200 acres and that on which said Powell lives. Begining on a pine and
runs thence along James Bland's line South 70 West 120 pole to a pine at his corner, thence
No. 30 West 220 poles to a pine by a bay pond, thence No. 60 East 160 poles to a pine on
the east side of the Branch, thence to the begining, another tract containing 100 acres
joining the above and begins at a pine his corner & Elijah Powell's runing thence No. 40
East 28 pole to a pine saplin, thence No. 15 West 270 pole to a pine on or near John
Alderman's line, thence West 94 pole to a stake on near his own old corner, thence as the
old line to the begining, the third contains 100 acres. Begining at a pine his old corner
of the land he lives on, thence along Daniel Heysmith's line No. 180 pole to a pine his
corner, thence No. 70 Et. 120 pole to a pine, thence So. 180 poles, thence as his own line
to the begining, togeather with all and singular the buildings improvements ways water
courses hereditaments & appurtenances to said lands belinging or appertaining. To have and
to hold to him said Joseph Stringfield his heirs exrs. admins. or assigns forever, provided
alway tha said Hardy Powell reserves to himself and his wife Rachel Powell the whole and sole
use and occuptaion of all the lands hereby granted and conveyed during their and either or
both of their natural lives, but free from all other claims of whatever nature or kind
thereafter. In witness whereof said Hardy Powell has hereunto set his hand & seal the day
and year above written.
