(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 12 Page 45 G W Hufham To David Wells Bill of sale for Negro Eli Know all men by these presents that I George W Hufham of the County of Duplin & State of North Carolina for and in consideration of eleven hundred and thirty five dollars in hand paid at and before the assigning of these presents the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have sold and conveyed and by these presents do sell and convey to David Wells of the County of New Hanover and State aforesaid a certain Negro Boy Named Eli about Twenty years of age the title I George W Hufham do warrant & defend against all claims from my Heirs and assigns to David Wells His Heirs and assigns forever In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 31st day of January 1838 George W Hufham signed sealed and delivered in the presence of James Newton State of North Carolina Duplin County Court of please and Quarter Sessions July term 1839 The Execution of the within Bill of sale is duly proved in open court by the oath of James Newton the subscribing witness thereto & is ordered to be Registered Copy N Routledge Rgr Test James Dickson Clk
