(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book B 11 Page 28 & 29 Deed 240 acres This Indenture made the thirteenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty Eight between Gilford Hollingsworth of the State of North Carolina and County of duplin of the one part and David Carlton on the State and County aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars in hand paid at and before the signing sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the said Gulford Hollingsworth hereby acknowledge hath bargain sold alined and conform unto the said David Carlton two certain tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in the State & County aforesaid and bounded as follows (vizt) in the west side of Maxwell Swamp on both sides of the South prong of Jimmys Branch. Beginning at a poplar Abraham Beasleys line and runs South 50 Et 128 poles to a pine his corner then his other line to his corner and past So 40 wt 68 poles to a stake on Fredrick Lewises line then his line No 50 wt 72 poles to a pine and lightwood stump his corner thence west 190 poles to a pine thence No 104 poles to a pine Abraham Beaslys line to the first station containing one hundred & fifty acres be the same more or less also on other tract or parcel of land. Beginning at a Stooping poplar on the bank of Maxwell Creek a little below the mouth of Jernings Marsh and runs So 65 wt 66 poles to a pine thence So 55 wt 56 poles to a pine Beasleys corner then as Beaslys patent line No 50 wt 127 poles to a poplar in little Jernings Branch then along Beasleys other patent line No 40 Et 76 poles to a stake at the run of Jirning Branch called the main prong thence down the same as it meanders to the mouth and down Maxwell run to the first station containing ninety acres be the same more or less. To have & to hold the aforesaid land and premises to him the said David Carlton and his heirs forever to the only proper use and behoof of him the said David Carlton and his heirs forever against himself and his heirs and against the lawfull claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever by these presents. In witness whereof I the said Gilford Hollingsworth hath hereunto set his hand & affixed his seal the day & year above written Signed Sealed & delivered in presence of Gilford Hollingsworth A.
