(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 12 Page 140, & 141 Gibson Sloan to Thomas Davis 186 acres This indenture made the thirty first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and thirty eight Between Gibson Sloan of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin of one part and Thomas Davis of the same State and County of the other part Witnesseth that the said Gibson Sloan has for and in consideration of the sum of three Hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said Thomas Davis before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt where by is acknowledge the the said Gibson Sloan has bargain sold aliened and set over a certain peace or parcil of Land unto the said Thomas Davis Bounded as follows in the County aforesaid and on the East side the North East River and on the North the muddy Creek Road Begining at a water oak Stump in a Branch that enters in to Farrior mill pond John Farrior corner and runs as his line So 37 wt 100 poles to a Stake on the Edge of the Road then along the Road No 54 wt 70 poles then along the Road No 60 wt 160 poles to a stake on the Edge of the road then No 10 wt 66 poles to a pine then No 66 Et 111 poles to a Stake then with John Farrior line So 52 Et 120 poles to a water oak in a small Branch said Farriors corner then down said Branch as it meanders to the Begining containing by estimation one hundred and Eighty six acres be the same more or Less and the said Gibson Sloan Doth warrant the right of the above described land unto the said Thomas Davis to be free and clear from the just & lawful claim of all other person or persons whatsoever in witness whereof I the said Gibson Sloan doth hereunto set his hand and affixt his seal the day & date first above written signed sealed and delivered In presence of Gibson Sloan John Farrior William Husey State of North Carolina Duplin County Court of please & Quarter Sessions Jany term 1840 the Execution of the within deed is duly proved in open court by the oath of William Hirris a subscribing witness thereto and is ordered to be Registered Test James Dickson Clk Copy N Routledge Rgr
