George Williams to Joseph Smith
Deed 120 acres
To all people to whom these presents shall come greeting. Know ye that I George Williams
of Duplin County & province of North Carolina for and In Consideration of the sum of thirty
Pounds proclamation monty To me in hand well and truly paid by Joseph Smith of the County
of Duplin of the Province of South Carolina. The receipt whereof I so hereby acknowledge
myself Therewith fully satisfied contented and paid and of every Part and parcel thereof
Do freely acquit Exonerate and Discharge the said Joseph Smith his heirs Executors
administrators and assigns forever and by these presents Do freely fully and absolutely
give grant Bargain alien convey & confirm unto him the said Joseph Smith his heirs Executors
administrators or assigns forever one message or Tract or parcel of Land situate Lying
and being in the County of Duplin and Province of North Carolina and on the north side
of Golden Grove swamp. Begining at the Run of the Grove Swamp at William Routledges line
then along said Routledge Line mill dam thence No 60 Et. 80 pole to a white oak thence
So 20 Et 50 pole to a pine then No 60 Et 40 pole to a Black jack thence a Southerly
course through Meadow down said Meadow and the dreans thereof between Presint Dwelling
houses of said Smith & Williams to a Cypress & ashe trees marked as a dividing corner
at the Run of the Grove Swamp and then up the Run of said Grove Swamp the William
Routledge corner the begining. Being part of a Tract of Land the said George Williams
purchased from Anthony Miller is to contain by Estimation one hundred & twenty acres
more or less. To have and to hold the granted & Bargained land and premises with all
appertainances previledged and commodities to the same belonging or in any wise
appertaining to him the said Joseph Smith his heirs Executors administrators or assigns.
To his & there only proper use benefit and behoofe & I the said George Williams for
myself my heirs Excrs. admrs. do Covenant promise and grant to and with the said Joseph
Smith his heirs & assigns that before the Ensealing hereof I am the true sole and Lawfull
owner of the above Bargained premises & am fully seized & possessed of the same in mine
proper right as a good perfect and absolute Estate of Inheritance in fee simple & have
in my self good Right full power & Lawfull authority to give grant Bargain sell alien
Enfeofe convey and confirm the said bargained premises in manner as said & that the said
Joseph Smith his heris & assigns shall & may from time to time and at all times forever
hereafter by virtue & force of these presents Lawfully peaceably and quietly have hold
use occupy possess and enjoy the Dimised and Bargained premises with all the appertainances
free & clear freely & clearly Equitted Exonerated and Discharged of from all manner & all
former or other Wills Grants sails leases Mortgages Dowers Jointers Judgements or any other
Incumberances whatsoever farther more I the said George Williams for my self my heirs
Excrs. Admrs. covenant & Engage the above demised & bargained premises free & clear of
all manner of Incumberances whatsoever his majesty King George the third quit rent and
his Successors quit rents only Excepted farther more I the said George William Do Covenant
& Engage ye above Demised premises to him of said Joseph Smith his heirs and assigns against
ye Lawfull Claim or Demands of any person or persons whatsoever & the same Warrant and
Defend as Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal this twenty ninth
day of July 1778.
