George Smith To Andrew Gufford
Deed for 75 acres lands
This indenture made this twentieth day of August in the year of our Lord 1785, George
Smith of the County of Duplin and Andrew Gufford of the same County of the other part.
Witnesseth, that the said George Smith for and in consideration of the sum of fifteen pounds
specie to me in hand paid by Andrew Gufford at and befor the ensealing and delivery of these
presents, the receipt and of every part and parcel thereof the said George Smith doth
acknowledge, hath given granted bargained sold alinated enfeoffed & convirmed & by these
presents doth grant and sell alinate and confirm unto the said Andrew Gufford his heirs and
executors administrators & assings one certain tract of land situate lying and being in the
County of Duplin on the south side of the North East swamp containing by estimation seventy
five acres be the same more or less, being part of a tract patend by Benjamin Snipes paten
bearing date the seventh day of December in the year of our Lord 1769, which is contained
within the bounds of the said paten in the fork of the Mirey Branch. Begining at a jack and
runs east 155 pole to a poplar in a branch, thence No. cross the run of the Mirey Branch,
thence up the said branch to the uper line of the said survey, thence along the said line to
the begining. To have and to hold to the said Andrew Gufford his heirs executors administrators
forever, & also the remains and remainders, benefits of the said premises & of every part and
parcel thereof with the appurtenances thereunto belonging or any wise appertaining unto the
said Andrew Gufford his heirs or assigns, to the only use & behoofe of him the said Andrew
Gufford his heirs & assigns forever, furthermore I the said George Smith an the true and sole
owner of the above bargained premises and have in myself full power to convey the said premises
& all the previledges thereunto belonging unto the said Gufford his airs and assigns forever,
clear of all gifts grants mortgages leases jointures dowries, the quit rents only becoming due
to the established receive in the State North Carolina, but do forever defend as absolute state
of inheritance, to him the said Andrew Gufford his heirs & assigns forever. In witness whereof
I have hereunto set my hand & seal the twentyeth day of August Anno Domini 1785.

Then was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of James Gufford & ordered
