(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 97, 98, & 99 George Powel To Robert Dickson Deed 540 acres This Indenture made the first day of August In the Twelth year of the American Independence and In the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven. Between George Powel of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin of the one part and Robert Dickson of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said George Powel for Diverse good causes and considerations him thereunto moving but more Especially for the valuable consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds current money of the State aforesaid, to him In hand well and truly paid or secured to paid by Robert Dickson aforesaid Before the ensealing and Delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged. Hath by these presents, given, granted, bargained, sold & assign and set over to the said Robert Dickson, his heirs and assigns forever one certain peice or parcel of Land situate, lying and being in Duplin County of the West side of the North East River No. side of Maxwell swamp and on both sides of Elder swamp, including the Improvements made by Patrick Poise Decd. and Elder Bridge. Begining at a poplar on the so. side of Elder Thence No. 160 poles to a pine, thence Wt. 320 poles to a pine, thence So. 320 poles to a stake South side of the swamp, thence Et. 320 poles to a stake, thence No. 160 poles to the first station, Containing in whole six hundred and forty acres (one hundred acres of the said Land, being thereto fore laid off and sold, to William Forester, and the remaining part, being five hundred and forty acres, be the same more or less It being part of the contents of a Patent Granted to Robert Watkins bearing date the seventh day of June 1739. And Conveyed by Ann Mather Executrix of Robert Watkin Decd. to Patrick Powel be Deed bearing Date the second day of November 1765. To have and to hold, the aforesaid land & premises with all the appertainances to the same belonging or in wise appurtaing of every nature or kind whatever to him the said Robert Dickson his heirs and assigns free from all former Gifts, grants, mortgages, Intails, Wills, Dowers, right or title of Dowers, executions, extents or troubles whatever, and the said Robert Dickson the afore Land and premises, shall and may have hold, use occupy enjoy and possess as his own free and Lawful Inheritance, free from all incumberance whatever, and the said George Powell the aforesaid land and premises to him the said Robert Dickson his heirs and assigns shall and warrant and forever Defend from and against him the said George Powel his heirs and assigns, as also from and against the just and Lawful claim or claims of every other person or persons whatever who may hereafter lay any Lawful claim or claims to the same In witness whereof the said George Powel hath hereunto set my hand seal the date above written. signed sealed and Delivered George Powel in presence of Samuel Houston Nathaniel McCanne State of No. Carolina Duplin County January Term 1791 Then was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of William McCanne and ordered to be registered.
