(Transcribed by Diane Siniard) Deed Book 1 A Page 59, 60, & 61 Francis Johnston To David Greer Deed 228 acres of lands North Carolina. This indenture made the second day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven between Francis Johnston of the province aforesaid & County of Duplin (Cooper) of the one part & David Greer of the said province & County of the other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and twenty pounds of good and lawfull money of North Carolina to him the said Francis Johnston in hand before the ensealing & delivery hereof well & truly paid by the said David Greer the receipt whereof being hereby acknowledged he the said Francis Johnston hath granted bargained sold allowed enfeoffed conveyed & confirmed unto the said David Greer his heirs & assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County & province aforesaid being on a branch of Golden Grove Swamp commonly know by the name of Buckskin branch containing two hundred & twenty eight acres lying on the head of said Buckskin Branch. Begining at said Johnstons upper coreern ( a pine) running thence So. 66 Wt. 160 po. to a R. O. thnce So. 80 Wt. 40 po. to a B. O. thence No. 70 Wt. 130 po. to a B. O. thence No. 30 Wt. 880 po. to a R. O. thence Wt. 54 pole to a pine, thence No. 144 po. to a small pine, thence to the first station, being in part of seventy one thousand one hundred & sixty acres of land, granted to Henry McCulloch Esqr. the third day of March 1745 reference being thereunto had may more fully and at large appear. with all trees woods waters and water courses profits commodities heriditaments & appertenances whatsoever to the said land belonging or in any wise appertaining one moiety of all mines & minerals reserved for the use of the said Francis Johnston his heirs & assigns and the reversion & reversions remainder & remainders rents issues & profits thereof & of every part and parcel thereof & all the right title claim interest & demand whatsoever of him the said Francis Johnston his heirs & assigns of in and to the said two hundred and twenty eight acres of land & premises and every part and parcel thereof To have & to hold the said granted and prebargained preises unto the said David Greer his heirs & assigns in manner & form following that is to say that he the said David Greer his heirs & assigns shall & may from time to time & at all times forever hereafter by force & virtue of these presents lawfully peacibly & quietly have hold use occupy possess & enjoy the said bargained land & premises and every part & parcel thereof free & clearly freely & clearly by & from all and all manner of incumbrances & incumbrances whatsoever had made or done or committed by the said Francis Johnston his heirs or assigns except as before executed & the said Francis Johnston his heirs & assigns except as before executed & the said Francis Johnston doth further covenant & engage that he the said Francis Johnston his heirs & assigns will warrant & secure & forevere defend the said hereby granted and bargained premises unto him the said David Greer his heirs & assigns against the lawfull claim or demand of any person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the said Francis Johnston hath hereunto set his hand & fixed his seal the day & year first above written. Francis Johnston Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of us John Greer James Greer Charles Ward State of North Carolina, Duplin County, Jany Court 1781.
