(Transcribed by Diane Siniard) Deed Book 1 A Page 264, 265, & 266 Felix Kenan Sheriff To Thomas Routledge Deed for 200 acres lands Know all men by these presents, that I Felix Kenan Exqr. Sheriff of the County of Duplin in the province of No. Carolina, have this day sold unto Thomas Routledge of the said County for and in consideration of ten pounds on shilling to me in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, two hundred acres of land situate lying and being on a Branch of Maxwell swamp known by the name of Stocking head; within the County and province aforesaid, the said two hundred acres being parcel of four hundred acres patend by John Miller the twentieth day of November one thousand seven hundred and forty four. Begining at a stake and runing South 36 Wt. 28 1/2 chains and seven and half links to a pine, thence No. 34 Wt. and 70 chains to a pine, thence No. 36 Et. 28 1/2 chains and 7 1/2 links to a stake, thence No. 54 Wt. and 70 chains to the begining, containing the two hundred acres as aforesaid be the same more or less, late the property of John Miller Senr. by me livied upon and sold at publick vendue, pursuant to his Magesties writ of Fieri Fracas to me directed from the Inferior Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions issued on the judgement of Joseph Williams recovered against the said John Miller Senr. in the said Court bearing test. the nineteenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy nine and in the ninth year of th reign of his Majesty George the third, for a debt of five pounds ten shillings, and the further sum of four pounds seven shilling ten pence for damages and cost in the prosecution of the complaint of the said Joseph Williams against him the said John Miller Senr. the said execution having been duly levied and piblick notice agreeable to law having been duly given, the said two hundred acres as aforesaid were by me sold in virtue of my office at publick sale on this fifty day of October in the year one thousand seven hundred and seventy one, at which sale Thomas Routledge aforesaid became the highest bider, Therefore this deed witnesseth that I Felix Kenan Sheriff of Duplin County aforesaid have granted bargained and conveyed unto him the said Thomas Routledge the aforesaid two hundred acres of land with the appurtenances. To have and to hold the premises aforesaid unto him the said Thomas Routledge his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof the said Felix Kenan Sheriff of the County of Duplin at Duplin Court House, hath hereunto set his hand and seal this fifth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy one.
