Elijah Bowen To Samuel Sowell
Deed for 100 acres lands
This indenture made the tenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven
hundred and eighty four, between Elijah Bowen of the State of No. Carolina and County of Duplin
of the one part, and Samuel Sowell of the same State & County aforesaid of the other part.
Witnesseth, that the said Elijah Bowen for and in consideration of the sum of twelve pounds
lawful money to him the said Elijah Bowen in hand paid the receipt whereof he doth hereby
acknowledge, hath given, granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth give grant
bargain sell aleinate and confirm unto him the said Samuel Sowell, him his heirs and assigns
forever, one sertain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred acres be the same more or
less lying and being in the County and State aforesaid on the East side of the North East
between the great branch and Matthews branch including his improvements. Begining at a red oak
and runing No. 100 poles to a lightwood stump, thence Et. 160 poles to a stake in a Meadow.
Thence So. 100 poles to a black jack, thence to the begining. To have and to hold the said
tract of land and premises, with all and singular the priviledges and appertenances thereuto
belonging, to him the said Samuel Sowell his heirs and assigns forever, to his & their only
proper use and benefit forever, and of the said Elijah Bowen for me my heirs and assigns do
covenant proise & grant to and with the said Samuel Sowell his heirs & assigns that before
ensealing hereof I am the true soul and lawful owner of the above bargained premises. I am
lawfully possessed therewith as my own proper right as a good estate of inheritance in full
and have in myself good right full power lawful authority to grant bargain sell and confirm
the said bargained premises as in manner above said and the said Samuel Sowell his heirs and
assigns shall and may from time to time & forever hereafter by rull virtue of the presents
lawfully peacely have use possess and enjoy the said demised premises as with the appertenances
free and clear and freely & clearly acquitted and discharged of from all and all manner and
other gifts grants bargains sails leases margages wills intails jointures rents executors
incumbrances extents furthermore I the said Elijah Bowen for myself my heirs executors and
administrators do covenant and engage the above demised premises to him the said Samul Sowell
his heirs & assigns against the lawful claims or demands of any person or persons I do warrent
the same the rents one excepted. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my
seal this day and year above written.
