(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 223, 224, & 225 Elijah Bowen To Meshack Stallins Deed for 50 acres lands This indenture made this eleventh day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five, & in the tenth year of Independency, between Elijah Bowen of the County of Duplin & State of North Carolina of the one part, & Meshack Stallins of the same State and County aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Elijah Bowen for divers good causes & considerations, but more especially for and in consideration of the sum of twenty pounds specie to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof he doth bereby acknowledge and himself therewith to be fully satisfied & content & of & therefrom doth hereby acquit the afoaresaid Meshack Stallins his heirs executors & assigns, hath bargained sold enfeofed conveyed & confirmed & hath be these presents for himself his heirs executors & administrators, hath and doth freely and absolutely bargain, sell enfeoffe convey & forever confirm unto the said Meshack Stallins his heirs and assigns one certain tract or parcel of land containing fifty acres, be the same more or less, situate lying & being in the County of Duplin on the North side of Rockfish creek & on east side of Fussell's creek. Begining at a pine an old corenr of another survey of said Fussell thence as the same No. 2 Wt. 40 poles to a persimmon his corner, thence as his other line down a Branch No. 88 Wt. 82 pole to a gum, thence as Fussell's other line So. ten East 120 pole to a pine & red oak, thence No. 80 Et. 80 poles to the begining. To have and to hold the said fifty acres of land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said Meshack Stallins his heirs and assigns forever in as full and ample manner to all intents & purposes as he the said Elijah Bowen did might or could have held the same before the making hereof and the said Elijah Bowen doth hereby promise & engage for himself his heirs executors and administrators, that at the time of sealing and delivery hereof, that he the said Elijah Bowen is and stands seizzed of the said land and premises of an indefeazable estate of inheritance in fee simple, and hath in himself good right full power and lawfull authority to grant bargain sell convey and forever confirm the said land and premises and every part and parcel thereof with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Meshack Stallins his heirs & assigns and that from time to time and at all times forever hereafter he the said Meshack Stallins his heirs and assigns by power and virtue hereof may and shall enter into have hold use possess and forever enjoy the said fifty acres of land, free & clear freely and clearly acquitted discharged saved kept harmless & indemnified off and from all former or other gifts grants bargains sales enfeoffments wills intails doweries executions entents & incumbrances whatsoever, the taxes which shall hereafter become annually due only excepted, moreover the said Elijah Bowen doth for himself his heirs executors and administrators do promise & engage that at any time at the reasonable request of him the said Meshack Stallins his heirs or assigns, or at his or their cost & charges in the law, make or cause to be made & duly executed any further or other deed or instrument of writing for the sure making a title of the said land and premises to him the said Meshack Stallins his heirs and assign forever as he the said Meshack Stalling his heirs or assigns or his or their councels learned in the law shall advise devise or require & furthermore the said Elijah Bowen doth hereby covenant & agree for himself his heirs executors and administrators to & with the said Meshack Stallins his heirs and assigns to warrent & forever defend the title of the said fifty acres of land to him the said Meshack Stalling his heirs and assigns free from the lawfull clame of him the said Elijah Bowen his heirs executors administrators or any other person whatsoever. In witness, whereof the said Elijah Bowen hath hereunto set his hand & seal the day & year first above written. Elijah Bowen Signed Sealed & delivered in presence of us Joseph Dickson William Wells State of North Carolina Duplin County January Court 1786.
