(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 495, 496, & 497 Dempsey Westbrook To Jacob Taylor Deed for 100 acres lands To all to whom these presents shall come greeting. Know ye that I Dempsey Westbrook of the County of Duplin & State of No. Carolina, for and in consideration of the sum or thirty pounds specie money to me in hand before the ensealing & delivery of these presents, well and truly paid by Jacob Taylor of the same State & County aforesaid, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge myself therewith to be fully satisfied & contented, & of every part and parcel thereof do exonerate & discharge the said Dempsey Westbrook his heirs executors administrators & assigns forever, & by these presents have given granted bargained sold aliend conveyed & confirmed & by these presents do fully freely & absolutely give grant bargain sell convey & confirm unto the said Jacob Taylor his heirs & assigns forever, one messuage or tract of land sittuated lying & being in the County of Duplin & State aforesaid, on the North East Marsh & South side of Gum Branch, containing by estimation one hundred acres be the same more or less. Begining at a pine on the Marsh above Bailes's improvements & runs So. 40 Wt. 180 pole to a pine, thence No. 50 Wt. along a line, to a line of marked trees, thence along the line of marked trees & east course to the marsh, thence down the marsh to the first station. To have and to hold the above bargained premises with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said Dempsey Westbrook, he his heirs executors administrators forever, to his & their only proper use benefit & behoof forever & I the said Dempsey Westbrrok for me my heirs executors administrators & assigns, do covenant promise and grant to and with the said Jacob Taylor he his heirs executors & assigns, that before the ensealing & delivery hereof, I am the true sole & lawfull owner of the above bargained premises in manner as above said, & that the said Jacob Taylor he is heirs & assigns shall and may from time to time & at all times forever hereafter, by force and virtue of these presents lawfully peacebly & quietly forever by force & virtue of these presents hold use occupie possess & enjoy the said demise premises with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining freely & clearly acquited exonerated & discharge of & from all manner of former or other gifts grants bargains sales leases wills mortgages entails jointures dowries judgments executions & incumbrances whatsoever, furthermore I the said Dempsey Westbrook do for me my heirs executors administrators & assigns do covenant & engage the demised premises to the said Jacob Taylor he his heirs & assigns & do warrant secure & forever defend the said lands against the lawfull claims or demands of any person or persons whatsoever, unto the said Jacob Taylor he his heirs & assigns forever hereafter.
