Deed Book U, pp334-5) Dawson Pickett to William Hunter 367 acres This indenture made this twenty ninth day of September one thousand eight hundred & seventeen, between Dawson Pickett of the State of North Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part & William Hunter Senr of the same County & State of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Dawson Pickett hath for & in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars good & lawful money to him in had paid, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, given granted & sold & by these presents do give grant, bargain sell enfeoff & confirm unto the said Wm Hunter Senr four certain tracts or parcels of land lying & being in the County of Duplin aforesaid & on both sides of Muddy Creek & East side of the North East river. One piece that was deeded from Jas. Pickett Sr. to Dawson Pickett of one hundred & fifty acres, beginning at a Red Oak on the Bank of the river & running thence W 60 S 160 poles to a scrub oak, thence N 25 W to Solomon Crockett’s lower corner to a spruce pine, then deviating from that course a little more Eastward, running in a compass by & with a a branch till it returns to the same course & line again, including a small piece of land formerly sold & confirmed to James Pickett by the within mentioned Dawson Pickett and containing 10 or 12 acres, then running with the former course then, till it comes to where it crosses Muddy Creek then down Muddy Creek to the mouth or River, then down the River to start (beginning) except three acres on the river sold to certain B. Gregory. One other tract deeded from Jason Batt to Dawson Pickett, beginning at a Sweet Gum, white oak stump & Pine Sapling by an old red oak stump on the edge of a Cypress Pond, the first station of Stephen Hollingworth’s old survey thence the old Patent line S 24 E, crossing Muddy Creek 140 poles to a stake, thence S 71 E 10 poles to a pine on the north side of the branch, thence down the branch as it meanders to a bay on the old line, thence along the old line N 45 E 163 poles to an ash on the edge of Muddy Creek Swamp on the Patent line, thence the Patent line down to the beginning – containing 140 acres be it more or less. Also one other tract deeded from James Pickett Jr. to Dawson Pickett, beginning at the Road on Dawson Pickett’s line & runs on his line S 43 W about 70 poles to a pine thence S 70 E about 75 poles to a pine, then W 37 S about 70 poles to the road then along the road to the beginning, containing thirty acres, be it more or less. Also another tract deeded from Henry Hollingsworth to the said Dawson Pickett, Beginning at a pine by a branch N 70 W 70 poles to a pine, S 45 W 63 poles to a pine by said Pickett’s fence, S 24 E 113 poles to a small pine and Water Oak in the Wire grass Island, thence to the first station. The four tracts above mentioned containing three hundred & sixty seven acres be the same more or less. Reference being had to said convey acres may more fully appear with all & singular the privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging. To have & to hold to him the said William Hunter Sr. his heirs & assigns forever. And I the said Dawson Pickett from me my heirs Executor or adm’r, I do warrant the said bargained land from me my heirs Exers & admrs or any of my assigns to him the said William Hunter Senr. to him his heirs & assigns forever.
