(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 356, 357, & 358 Daw. Bowen To Elijah Bowen Deed for 200 acres lands To all to whome these presents shall come, I Daw. Bowen of the County of Sampson & State aforesaid planter send greetin. Know ye that I the said Daw Bowen do by these present for & in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds specie to me in hand paid by Elijah Bowen of the County Duplin & State aforesaid planter, the receipt whereof I do acknowledge & therewith am fully satisfied contented & I do by these present acquit and discharge the said Elijah Bowen his executors & administrators, I have by these presents I do give grant bargain sell assign & set over to the said Elijah Bowen a tract of land containing two hundred acres, situate lying & being in the County of Duplin & State afoaresaid on the west side of Rockfish Creek. Begining at a red oak by the side of the Creek runing thence Wt. 128 poles to a black jack, thence crossing meadow 250 pole to a white oak, thence Et. 128 pole to a cypress in Rockfish swamp, thence as the various courses to the begining, as may more fully appear by the patten granted to the above said Daw. Bowen, bearing date the first day of April in the fourth year of our Independence & in the year or our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty. To have and to hold the said two hundred acres of land togeather with all and singular the houses & buildings & all other the improvements of whatsoever nature or kind on the premises, also all the previledges advantages & benefits to the said land belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said Elijah Bowen his heirs & assigns forever, and the said Daw Bowen do by these present for me my heirs executors admins. & assigns do covenant promise grant and agree to and with the said Elijah Bowen his heirs exrs. adms. & assigns in manner & form following, that is to say that the said Elijah Bowen his heirs executors admns. & assigns shall and may from time to time & at all times hereafter guietly peacebly hold occupie possess & enjoy the pre bargained premises & every part & parcel thereof free and clear off & from all manner of incumbrance whatever had made or done by me the said Daw Bowen except the yearly rents that may become due & furthermore I the said Daw Bowen do by these presents for me my heirs exrs. adms. and assigns do promise grant and agree to and with the said Elijah Bowen his heirs & assigns, the prebargained premises with every the appurtenances thereunto belonging from the lawfull and demands of any person or persons whatever. I have & will warrant & defend by these presents. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this nineteenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty four. Daw Bowen Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of David Alderman Daniel Alderman State of No. Carolina Duplin County Jany. Term 1787.
