(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 39, 40 & 41 David Hall To Thomas Crumpton Deed of 340 acres of lands This indenture made the second day of March in the eighth year of American Independence, and in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty four, between David Hall of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin of the one part, and Thomas Crumpton of the same place of the other part, Witnesseth that the said David Hall for diverse good causes and considerations him thereunto moving, but more expecially for the valuable consideration of the sum of fifty pounds spedie to him in hand well and truly paid or secured to be paid by Thomas Crumpton aforesaid before ensealing an delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath by these presents fiven, granted, bargained, sold assigned and set over to the said Thomas Crumpton his heirs & assigns forever, the following tracts or parcels of land, situate lying and being in Duplin County aforesaid on the branches of Rockfish Creek & bounded as follows, Viz. one tract containing by patent one hundred and fifty acres, granted to the said Thomas Crumpton the 27th day of October 1782. Begining at a pine on the west side of Burrill hill branch Clifton Bowen's corner, thence along his line about No. 77 Wt. 220 poles to a stake by a pine his corner, thence along his other North 10 Et. 158 poles to a princo, thence So. 80 Et. 120 poles to a pine on Benjamin Laniers line, thence So. 15 Et. 25 poles to a red oak pin & hickory his corner by a drain, then down the said drain with Lanier's line East 20 poles to the run of Burril Branch, thence down the branch the various courses to the begining. Also one hundred and fifty acres part of three hundred acres granted by patent to the said Thomas Crumpton the 29th of October Anno. Dom. 1782. Begining at a white oak on the east side of Burrill hill branch the last corner of the said patent, thence the patent line So. 80 Et. 286 poles to a stake, thence So. 140 poles to a stake on said Hall's line of a survey of one hundred acres, thence as that line North 80 Wt. to the corner a red oak on the Creek, thence up the Creek the various courses to the begining as also part of one hundred acres granted by pather to the said David Hall for forty acres, be the same more or less. Begining at a red oak the upper corner of said 100 acres on the east side of Burril hill branch thence the patent line South 80 Et. tot the run of gum branch and down the said run to the mouth and up the run of Burrill hill branch to the begining, which saie three pieces of parcels of land contain by survery and extimation, three hundred and forty acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold the said bargained land and premises with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said Thomas Crumpton his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Thomas Crumpton the aforesaid land and premises shall & may have hold use occupy enjoy and possess as his own free and lawful inheritance, free from all incumbrances whatwoever given granted or done by him the said David Hall and the said David Hall the aforesaid land and premises as to him the said Thomas Crumpton his heirs & assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend from and against him the said David Hall his heirs and assigns as also from and against the just and lawful claim of all persons whatsoever who may hereafter lay any lawful claim to the same. In witness where of the said David Hall hath hereunto set his hand & seal the date above written. David Hall Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of us Joseph Dickson John Cook Edward Dickson State of North Carolina, Duplin County, July Court 1784.
