Daniel Legate To Charles Brown
bill of sale Negro wench
State of No. Carolina Duplin County
Know all men by these presents that I Daniel Legate of the County of Terril and state
aforesaid. For and in consideration of the sum of one Hundred and sixty pounds good and Lawful
money of the state aforesaid to him in hand well and truly paid by Charles Brown of the state
and County of Duplin aforesaid. The receipt whereof I do hereby confess & acknowledge. Have
granted bargained & sold and in plain & open Market delivered unto the said Charles Brown one
Negro woman slave Named affe and a female child named Cloe which said Negros affe & Cloe as
aforesaid I do by these presents promise and oblige myself and Each of my Heirs Executors &
Administrators to warrent & forever Defend unto the said Charles Brown his Heirs and assigns
forever from and against the Lawful claim or demand of all and every person or persons whatsoever
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this thirteenth day of Jany. Anno Domini 1791.
