(Transcribed by Joan S DUnn) Deed Book 1 A Page 85 & 86 Daniel Herring To Stephen Herring Deed for 3 acres a grist mill & etc. This indenture made this 25th day of October in the year of our Lord God 1783, between Daniel Herring of Duplin County and State of North Carolina of the one part and Stephen Herring of the County and State aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and ten pounds specie money to me in hand paid I being fully satisfied therewith have given granted bargained and sold, and do hereby convey unto said Stephen Herring his heirs and assigns forever, one certain tract or parcel of land sittuate lying and being in the County of Duplin and State aforesaid, and on the No. side of Goshen swamp, and on both sides of Herring's branch, Three acres of land with a grist mill on it, the said Daniel Herring had an order of County for the said Mill August 1766, to have and to hold said mill and mill rights with all the appertenances unto him said Stephen Herring his heirs and assigns forever, to the only proper use benefits behoof of him the said Stephen Herring his heirs and assigns, and for no other intent or use whatsoever, and I said Daniel Herring for me myself my heirs and assigns doth covenant and grant to and with said Stephen Herring his heirs assigns that I the said Daniel Herring the above granted mill with the appertenances unto him the said Stephen Herring his heirs and assigns forever, shall & will at all times forever hereafter well and truly warrant and forever defend from all and all manner of other titles or incumbrances whatsoever, the State dues only excepted.
