(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 45 Curling Smith To Ivey Smith Bill Sale Know all men by these presents that I Curling Smith of norfolk County hath granted bargained and sold unto Ivey Smith One negroe girl named Rachel that I Bought of James Hodges about Twelve years old which for seventy pounds north Carolina Currency Dollars at Two for one the said negroe girl I warrent and Defend from myself my heirs Executors administrators and assigns from the title and Claim of all and every other person & persons whatsoever in testimony whereof I hereof set my hand and affixed my seal this eightenth Day of July 1790 Thomas Hooks Curling Smith State of No. Carolina Duplin County July Term 1790 Then was the within Bill of Sale proved in open Court by the oath of Thomas Hooks and ordered to be Registered.
