(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 498, 499, & 500 Commisssioners of Sarecta To James Wallace & Israel Bowdean Deed for four lots This indenture made the sixteenth day of October, in the twelveth year of American Independence & in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty seven. Between James Wallace & Israel Bourdeann of the one part, & Charles Ward John Hill James Outlaw Samuel Houston David Murdock George Miller & John Matchet commissioners appointed by act of Assembly passed the sixth day of January 1787, for laying out the Town of Saracta of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Charles Ward John Hill James Outlaw Samuel Houston David Murdock George Miller & John Matcher commissioners as aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of two pounds for each lott in hand paid to William & Edward Houston proprietors of the said Town by Griffith Houston, William Southerland Sean Worley & John Chambers do exonerate acquit & discharge the said James Wallace & Israel Bourdeann their heirs & assigns from the same & every part thereof. The said Charles Ward John Hill James Outlaw Samuel Houston David Murdock George Miller & John Matchet commissioners aforesaid of said Town by virtue of the powers & authorities invested in them by act of Assembly aforesaid passed at Fayettevill, have given granted bargained & sold & confirmed & conveyed, & by these presents do bargain sell convey & confirm unto the said James Wallace & Israel Bourdeann & their heirs, all that messuage or part of the said Town known by name in the plan to the said Town by Lott number six, which said Lot was at the time of drawing for Lots in said Town, drawn by Griffitn Houston & by him sold unto the said James Wallace & Israel Bourdeann, and alsothe Lott known by the name of number seven, which said Lot was drawn by William Southerland, & by him sold to the said James Wallace & Israel Bourdeann in like manner, and also the Lot known by the name of number twenty six, which said Lot was drawn by Jane Worley & by her sold to them in like manner, & also the Lot known by the name of number twenty seven, which said Lot was drawn by John Chambers & by him sold in like manner to the said James Wallace & Israel Bordeann. To have and to hold the said Lots & lands hereafter sold with all the rights menbers & appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto James Wallace & Israel Bourdeann their heirs & assigns forever, free from the least like hindrances molestation or interuption of them the said Charles Ward John Hill James Outlaw Samuel Houston David Murdock George Miller & John Matchet commissioners and their successors in office, & the said commissioners in virtue of power and authorities aforesaid do further covenant & agree to & with the aforesaid James Wallace & Israel Bordeann, that they will from time to time warrant & defen the Lots or lands numbered and discribed as aforesaid, unto the said James Wallace & Israel Bourdeann their heirs & assigns forever, from & against the lawfull or just claim of them or any of them or their or any of their successors in office, or from and against the claim of any other person claiming or to claim by from or under them or any of them, or any other person or persons whatsoever, they the said James Wallace& Israel Bourdeann yielding & paying such taxes as shall be assigned by them the said commissioners or their successors in office for the regulation of said Town & performing the different contracts & agreements concluded or by the commissioners formerly appointed for laying off said Town. The nam William Southerland being first obliterated & that of John Chambers interlined James Kenan Robert Dickson Geo. Morisey State of No. Carolina Duplin County April Term 1788.
