(Transcribed by Joan S DUnn) Deed Book 1 A Page 447, & 448 Claudius Cartwright To John Blanton Deed for 300 acres lands This indenture made the twenty ninth day of August in the tenth year of American Independence & in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & eighty five, Between Claudius Cartwright of the State of No. Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part, & John Blanton of the same place of the other part witnesseth, that the said Cluadius Cartwrght for divers good causes & considerations him thereunto moving, but more especially for the valuabloe consideration of the sum of forty pounds current money of the State aforesaid to him in hand well and truly paid or secured to be paid by John Blanton aforesaid, before the ensealing & delivering of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath by these presents given granted bargained sold assigned & set over to the said John Blanton his heirs and assigns, one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying & being in Duplin County aforesaid on the south side of Rockfish and north side of the Doctors Creek. Begining at a pine John Little's corner tree, thence Little's line Wt. 90 poles to a red oak his corner, thence Little's other line So. 84 pole to a stake in a branch, thence Blanton's line Wt. 120 poles to a white oak, thence Blanton's other line patented by Joseph Dickson north 126 poles to a pine, thence his other line Wt. 90 poles to a pine, thence No. 140 poles to a pine, thence Et. 240 poles to a pine, thence straight to the begining, containing int he whole three hundred acres be the same more or less, containing said Cartwrights improvements. To have and to hold the aforesaid land and premises to him the said John Blanton his heirs & assigns forever, free from all former gifts grants mortgages intails wills dowers right or title of dowers executions intents or troubles whatever given granted or done by him the said Claudius Cartwright or any other person or persons by from or under him or thim or any of them, and the said John Blanton the aforesaid land and premises shall and may have hold use occupy enjoy & possess as his own free and lawfull inheritance free from all incumbrances whatever, the taxes as they become due only excepted & fore prized & the said Claudius Cartwright the aforesaid land & premises to him the said John Blanton his heirs & assigns shall and will warrant & forever defend from & against him the said Claudius Cartwright his heirs & assigns as also from and against the just and lawfull claim of all and every other person or persons whatever who may hereafter law any lawfull claim to the same. In witness whereof the said Claudius Cartwright hath hereunto set his hand the date above written.
