(Transcribed by Joan S DUnn) Deed Book 1 A Page 380, 381, & 382 Christopher Martin To Henry Stokes Deed for 180 acreds lands This indenture made this twenty fifth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty seven & in the eleventh year of the Independence of America. Between Christopher Martin of the County of Duplin & State of No. Carolina of the one part & Henry Stokes of the same County of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Christopher Martin for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds specie to him in hand well and truly paid by the said Henry Stokes before the ensealing of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said Christopher Martin & himself therewith contented & paid & of every part thereof hath given granted bargained & sold conveyed confirmed assigned & set over unto the said Henry Stokes his heirs and assigns forever, all the following two tract of land situate lying & being in Duplin County aforesaid. That is to say. Begining at a Bunch of Bays in the Miry Branch on William Hall's line, thence as his line South 57 East 50 pole to a pine his corner, thence as his other line No. 84 Et. 114 pole to a pine his corner, thence as his other line No. 36 Et. 42 pole to a white oak in the Wolf Pond Branch, thence down the various courses Miry Branch to the first station, containing eighty acres be the same more or less, as also one other part of parcel of land adjoining the above containing one hundred acres. Begining at a white oak in the Wolf Pond Branch his corner of the before mentioned survey, thence as his line So. 37 Wt. 42 pole to a pine corner, thence as his other line No. 57 Wt. 50 pole to a bunch of Bays in the Miry Branch his corner, thence So. 57 Wt. 26 pole to a stake on James Flemmon's line, thence South 30 Et. 38 pole to a stake on Felix Kenan's line, thence as his line Et. 72 pole to a pine his corner, thence or near his other line So. 5 Et. 50 pole to a stake No. 130 pole to a stake, thence to the begining. To have and to hold the said bargained land & premises with the appurtenances therunto belonging or in any wise appurtaining to him the said Henry Stokes his heirs & assigns forever, in as full & ample manner as he the said Christopher Martin by his deed from William Hall dated the fourth day of February 1780 for the former tract & patent bearing the ninth day of October 1783, for the lattntract might or could enjoy of and from all manner of former or other gifts grants bargains sails wills mortgages intails jointures judgements dowers entents troubles or incumbrances of any kind or nature had made done or committed by him the said Christopher Martin his heirs or assigns, the lawfull taxes that hereafter may become due excepted, & the said Christopher Martin doth hereby further covenant & engage to warrant & defend the said Henry Stokes his heirs & assigns in the quiet & peaceble possession of the said bargained land & premises aforesaid, from & against the lawfull claim or demand of any person claim or to claim by from or under him the said Christopher Martin his heirs or assigns or any other person or persons whatsoever. In witness the said Christopher Martin hath hereunto set his hand &v seal the day & year first above written.
