Bartholomew Gainey to Noel Gainey Deed 22 August 1797

(Transcribed by Fran Powell) 22 August 1797 Sampson DB 10 p 415: Bartholomew Gainey (a "labourer") to Noel Gainey. £150 pounds for 150A being "One Certain tract of land and part of Two other tracts. the whole tracts Lying On the West side of Great Cohara." The first tract began "by the side of the swamp By John Stouts Corner as then Was Running thence along Stouts line." etc. Deed mentions "Jumping Run (sic) Branch." "the side of the branch by the great Road." and Coharie Swamp. Land was "granted to Bartholomew Gainey letters Patent Bearing Date" 21 April 1764. Deed states: "the Other two parts or tracts of land Joining the above land the former and the two latter parts of tracts including all the land I Now possess On the West side of the Run of great Cohara." Wit: Joab Blackman and Willis Lee.
