(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 45, 46, & 47 Baker Bowden To John Bradley Deed of 300 acres of lands This indenture made this February 01th day of February one thousand seven hundred and eighty four, between Baker Dowden of the State of North Carolina and County of Hanover of the one part and John Bradley of the same State and County of Duplin of the other part Witnesseth that the said Baker Bowden for and in consideration of the sum to twenty pounds specie to him in hand paid and truly paid before the ensealing and delivery of these presents by the said John Bradley his receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and himself therewith to be fully satisfied contented and paid and of every part and parcel thereof, and hereby exonerate acquit and discharge the said John Bradley his heirs executors and administrators and every of them by these presents have given, granted, bargained, sold, conveyed, confirmed, assigned and set over and by these presents doth hereby fully freely and absolutely grant bargain, sell, convey confirm assign and forever, all that tract or plantation of land lying & being in the County of Duplin and State aforesaid on the No. side of Goshen swamp and on the white oak swamp. Begining at a pine on the edge of the road on William Bizzel's line and runs with his line No. 74 West one hundred and sixty nine poles to a pine his corner, thence with his other line So. 40 Wt. 64 poles to a water oak in a small branch thence with his line So. 22 Wt. 110 poles to a stake on Willis Cherry's line thence with his line So. 45 Et. 80 poles to a pine, thence Wt. 64 poles to a stake thence to the begining, containing in the whole three hundred acres of land being the contents of a pattent granted to the said Baker Bowden bearing date the twenty ninth day of October and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty two Reference thereunto had may more fully and at large appear. To have & to hold to him the said John Bradley hie heirs and assigns forever all & singular the above granted three hundred acres of land prmises together with all woods waters and rivers and all priviliges of hunting, hawking, fishing and fowling with all and singular profits commodious benefits privileges and advantages of every nature or kind whatsoever therever or there unto in anywise belonging or appertaining to him the said John Bradley his heirs or assigns forever, in as full and ample manner as the said Baker Bowden by the pattent for the same could or might enjoy & the said Baker Bowden for himself his heirs executors and administrators doth hereby covenant promise and agree to & with the said John Bradley his heirs and assigns that at the time of sealing and delivery of these presents, he the said Baker Bowden is the true sole and lawful owner of the above granted and bargained three hundred acres of land an premises, and hath himself good rightful power & lawful authority to grant, bargain, sell and convey the same away for ever, and the said Baker Bowden doth hereby further covenant & agree to and with the said John Bradley his heirs and assigns that he the said John Bradley his heirs and assigns shall & may from time to time and at all time forever hereafter by force and virtue of these presents lawfully, peacebly and quietly have hold use occupy possess and enjoy all and singular the above bargained and granted land and premises as a good perfect and absolute estate of inheritance forever in simple and that free and clear, freely and clearly exonorated acquited and discharged of and from all and all manner of incumbrances whatfoever accepts the quit rents hereafter yearly to become due to the State from the date fereof and further he the said Baker Bowden will warrant secure and defent to same to him the said John Bradley his heirs and assigns from and against the just and lawfull claims and demands of any person or persons whatsoever claiming or to claim any right title interest or property off inor to the said granted and bargained land and premises orof in or to any part parcel thereof. In witness whereof the Baker Bowden hereunto set he hand and affixed his seal the day & date above written. Baker Bowden Signed sealed and delivered in the presents of us Patrick Norris Richard Bradley Statae of No. Carolina, Duplin County, July Court 1784 There was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of Ratrick Norris and ordered to be registered.
