(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book B 11 Page 35 & 36 Deed for 122 Acres Land This Indenture made the 16th of January and in the year of our Lard Eight thousand thirty eight between A. T. Stanford of the one part and County of Duplin & State of North Carolina and Stephen Herring of the other part of said County & State witnesseth that for and inconsideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to me in hand paid hath bargained sold and delivered to the said Stephen Herring a certain tract of Land lying & being in the above mentioned County and State afoaresaid containing one hundred & Twenty two acres be the same more or less to him the said Stephen Herring to have and to hold to wit Beginning at a white oak on the run of the mile Branch thence running South 55 Et 320 poles to a pine thence South 85 wt 124 poles to a Stake on the main Road thence North 25 wt 215 poles to a Black Gum thence South 83 Et 64 poles to the run of Elder branch and corners on a water oak thence up the Run of Elder branch to the mouth of the mill Branch thence up the run of the Mill Branch to the beginning the number of acres above written and date above mentioned Signed sealed and delivered in presents of A. J. Stanford Isaac B. Kelly H. A. Chambers State of North Carolina Duplin County Court of pleas & Quarter Sessions April Term 1839 The Execution of the within deed is duly acknowledged in open court by Alexander T.
