Alexander Porter To David Carlton
Deed for 100 acres lands
This indenture made the tenth day of January in the year of our Lord one
thousand seven hundred and eighty seven, & in the eleventh year of the American
Independence. Between Alexander Porter of the County of Duplin & State of No.
Carolina planter of the one part & David Carlton of the County & State aforesaid
of the other part witnesseth that the said Alexander Porter for and in consideration
of the sum of twenty pounds current money of the State aforesaid to him in hand
well and truly paid or secured to be paid by David Carlton aforesaid, before the
ensealing & delivering of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledge,
hath by these presents given granted bargained sold assigned & set over to the
said David Carlton one certain tract or parcel of land, situate lying & being in
the County aforesaid on both sides of Well's swamp or branch of Millers swamp that
empties into Stewarts Creek. Begining at a large white oak in gum branch and runs
thence So. 20 Wt. 28 poles to a pine his corner thence his other line So. 70 Et. 34
pole to a pine, thence South 30 West 90 poles to a popular and elm on Jacob Wells's
line in Wells's swamp, thence his line to his corner, & past No. 70 Wt. 136 poles
to a pine & black Jack, thence Beesley's line to his corner & past No. 82 pole to
a stake, thence Et. 160 poles, thence to the begining, containing in the whole one
hundred acres be the same more or less, which said one hundred acres of land was
granted to the said Alexander Porter by patent bearing date the 21st day of September
1785. To have and to hold the aforesaid land and premises with all the appurtenances
to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining of every nature or kind whatever,
free from all incumbrances whatever given granted or done by him the said Alexander
Porter or any other person by him or under him and the said David Carlton the
aforesaid land and premises shall and may have hold use occupie possess & enjoy as
his own free and lawfull inheritance & the said Alexander Porter the aforesaid land
and premises shall and will warrant and forever defend to him the said David Carlton
his heirs & assigns forever, from and against hie the said Alexander Porter his heirs
& assigns or any other person whatever claiming by from or under him the said Alexander
Porter. In witness whereof the said Alexander Porter hath hereunto set his hand &
fixed his seal the day & date first above written.
