Abraham & Lois Newton To James & Joshua Newton
Deed for 300 acres lands
This indenture made the eighth day of January, in the eleventh year of American
Independance & in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty seven. Between
Lois Newton & Abraham Newton of the County of Duplin & State of North Carolina of the one
part & James Newton & Joshua Newton of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Lois &
Abraham Newton's for and in consideration of the love good will & affection which they bear
towards the said James & Joshua Newton's have given granted & confirmed & by these presents
doth give grant & confirm unto the said James & Joshua Newton's their heirs & assigns forever
a tract or parcel of land containing three hundred acres, one hundred acres of which lands
was patend formerly by Henry Skibbon it being the same whereon the said Jacob Newton settled
& improved (on gum branch) & pharises creek & the other two hundred acres being part of a
survey of three hundred acres patend by the said Jacob Newton in the year of our Lord 1775.
We the said Lois Newton & Abraham Newton exceoting & reserving unto the said Lois Newton her
natural lifetime the before recited lands & premises in the full possession & enjoyment of
the said lands & premises during her natura life & at her the said Lois Newton's decease,
then the before recited lands & premises to fall rest and remain unto them the said James
Newton & Joshua Newton's their heirs & assigns forever, togeather all and singular the woods
underwoods profits commodities & emoluments and heriditaments whatsoever to the said premises
belonging or in any wise appertaining, and also the reversion & reversions, remainder &
remainders of the said premises & of every part thereof with the appurtenances, and also all
the estate right title claim interest & demand of them the said Lois & Abraham Newton's & in
and to the said premises & every part thereof. To have and to hold the said lands & premises
& every part thereof with the appurtenances unto the said James & Joshua Newton's their heirs
& assigns to the only proper use benefit & behoofe of them the said James & Joshua Newton's
their heirs & assigns forever & the said Lois & Abraham Newton's for themselves their heirs &
assigns do hereby convey & set over the before recited lands & premises & every part thereof,
observing direly the before recited exception which is to say for the said Lois Newton to have
hold use occupie possess and enjoy the before recited land & premises during her natural
lifetime, & at her the said Lois Newtons death then the said lands & premises to rest & remain
unto the said James & Joshua Newton's their heirs and assigns forever, & they the said Lois &
Abraham Newton's doth hereby warrant and forever defend the before recited lands & premises
unto the said James & Joshua Newton's their heirs & assigns forever against the lawfull clame
or claims of any person or persons claiming by from or under heirs. In witness whereof the
parties to these presents hath hereunto set their hands & seal the day & date first above
written.
