Abraham Glisson To James Chambers
Deed for 500 acres lands
This indenture made the twelvth day of October in the tenth year of American Independence,
and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five, between Abraham Glisson
of the State of North Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part, and James Chambers of the
same place, witnesseth, that for and in consideration of two hundred & ten pounds current money
in hand paid by said James Chambers at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents,
the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, and therefore doth acquit release and discharge
the said James Chambers his executors & administrators by these presents, he the said Abraham
Glisson hath granted bargained sold aliened & confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain
sell alien & confirm unto the said James Chambers and his heirs the following tracts or parcels
of land, situate lying and being in the County and State aforesaid and bounded as followeth, Viz.
one tract containing by paten fifty acres granted to Thomas Kenan the twenty eight day of
February Anno Domini 1754, and by said Thomas Kenan conveyed to James Kenan, and by the said
James Kenan to the said Abraham Glisson the 13th day of Jany. Anno Domini 1778, and lying on a
branch of Maxwell called Cabbin Branch. Begining at a pine on said Branch runing So. 13 Et. 15
chas. to a maple thence So. 32 Wt. 11 chains to a white oak, thence So. 25 Et. 25 chains to a
white oak, thence So. 57 Wt. 14 chains to an oak, thence So. 20 Wt. 3 chains to a small red oak,
thence So. 69 Wt. 5 chains to a sweet gum, thence No. 40 Wt. 10 chains to a pine, thence No. 4
chains 50 links to a stake by a Branch, and down the branch to the first station, also one other
tract containing one hundred and fifty acres granted to the said James Kenan the twenty seventh
day of April Anno Domini 1767, and by the said James Kenan conveyed by a deed to Abraham Glisson,
bearing date the 13th day of January Anno Dom. 1778, on the So. side of Maxwell swamp on both
sides of Cabbin Branch joining above the aforesaid fifty acre survey. Begining at a water oak
by the upper corner in the side of Cabbin Branch, thence up the said run as it meanders to the
first station, also one other tract containing one hundred acres on the west side of the No.
East Branch of Cape Fear River and south side of Maxwell swamp in the fork of Parson's Branch
and Cabbin Branch. Begining at a maple & ashe at the run of Cabbin by or near to his corner of
one hundred and fifty acres patend by James Kenan, thence down the run by various courses to the
mouth and up the run of Parson's Branch by various courses joining William Telmot's line & past,
it about 280 pole to a gum at the run, thence So. 95 pole to a pine, thence joining on his own
line Et. to the begining, granted by paten to the said Abraham Glisson the first day of July
1779, also one other tract containing by paten one hundred acres, bearing date the first day of
July Anno Domini 1779, on the west side of the No. East Branch of Cape Fear River, on the So.
side of Maxwell & Cabbin Branch joining his own and John Holdon's lands. Begining at a black
oak John Holdon's corner, thence No. 10 Et. 18 poles to a maple, thence up the run by various
courses to a maple which on a straight line is No. 84 Wt. 150 poles, thence So. 13 Wt. with his
own line 14 poles to a stake thence So. 84 Et. 90 poles to a pine, thence John Holdon;s line No.
10 Et. to the begining, also one other tract on the west side of the No. East Branch of Cape
Fear River containing one hundred acres granted to the said Abraham Glisson, by paten bearing
date the first day of July Anno Dom. 1779, on the So. side of Maxwell & Cabbin Branch, Begining
at a water oak said Glisson's corner of 150 acres patend by James Kenan, thence as said line So.
18 Wt. 64 poles to a pine his corner, thence So. 70 Et. 126 poles to a pine, thence No. 25 Wt.
126 poles to a pine, thence No. 45 Wt. 116 pole to a pine and Dogwood on his line of fifty acres
patend by Thomas Kenan, thence by said line So. 57 Wt. 26 poles to a gum at the run of Cabbin
Branch, thence as the run to the begining. To have and to hold the aforesaid land & premises
with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said
James Chambers his heirs and assigns forever, and the said James Chambers the aforesaid land
and premises shall and may have hold use occupie enjoy and possess as his own free and lawfull
inheritance, free from all former gifts grants mortgages intails wills, dower right or title of
dower, executions entents or troubles whatever, and the said Abraham Glisson the aforesaid land
and premises with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to him
the said James Chambers his heirs and assigns shall and will warrent & forever defend from and
against him the said Abraham Glisson and his heirs, as also from and against the just and
lawfull clame of all and every other person or persons whatever, who may hereafter lay any
lawfull clame to the same. In witness whereof the said Abraham Glisson hath hereunto set his
hand and seal the date above written.
