(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 3 A Page 1 John Farior to Joseph Johnston Deed 200 acres This indenture made this 3rd day of January one thousand seven hundred and ninety four, between John Farrior planter of the Sate of No. Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part, & Joseph Johnston planter of the same State & County aforesaid Witnesseth, that the said John Farrior for divers goods & Chattels, but more sepecially for the valuable consideration of the sum of forty pounds Specie currency of the State aforesaid to him in hand paid by Joseph Johnston aforesaid, before the ensealing & delivery of these presents, the rect. whereof is hereby acknowledged be the said John Farrior doth by these presents grant bargain sell aline and confirm unto the said Joseph Johnston his heirs & Assigns forever, one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying or being in Duplin County & State aforesaid on the East side of the No. East River & St. side of Muddy Creek, on both sides of the freat Branch. Begining at a pine by a pond thence So. 126 poles to a stake between two pines in the corner of a meadow, thence Wt. 252 poles to a pine, thence No. 126 poles to a stake by a pine, thence Et. 252 poles to the begining. Containing in the whole two hundred acres by the same more or less, To have & to hold the aforesaid land and premises with all the improvements to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining of every nature of kind whatsoever, free from all former gifts grants mortgages wills dowers rights or titles of dower or any other incumbrance whatever given granted or done by him the said John Farrior or any other person or persons whatever, by from or under him or them or any of them & the said Joseph Johnston the aforesaid land & premises shall and may have hold use except enjoy & possess as his own free and lawful interest free from all incumbrances, the takes as they become due only excepted & ford prized & said John Farrior the aforesaid land & Premises to him the aforesaid Joseph Johnston his heirs & assigns shall and will currant & forever defend from and against him the said John Farrior his heirs & assigns, as also from & against past and lawful claim of all and every other person or persons whatever who may hereafter lay any lawful claim to the same. In Witness whereof the said John Farrior hereinto set his hand & seal the date first above written.
