  Duplin County, Province of North Carolina, 8 November 1766. From NC State Archives CR.035.801 page 17. Will filed at Wilmington, NC. In the Name of God Amen. I Joseph Boykin of Duplin County and Province of North Carolina being sick and Weak of Body but of a Sound and Perfect mind and memory praise be given to Almighty God Doe make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following. That is to say first and Principally I Commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it hopeing through the meritts Death and Passion of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free Pardon and forgiveness of all my Sins & my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently Buried at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter Named and What Worldly goods and Estate it hath pleased God to Bestow upon me. I give and Dispose as followeth first I will that all my just debts be met charges be ____ and discharged. Item I give and Bequeath to my Daughter Sarah Six Cows and Calves Item I give and Bequeath to my Son William Six Cows and Calves Item I give and Bequeath to my Son Smeddick Six Cows and Calves Item I give and Bequeath to my Daughter Edey Six Cows and Calves Item I give and Bequeath to my Son John Twenty Neat Steers Item I give and Bequeath to my Daughter Mary Six Cows and Calves Item I give and Bequeath to David Dod that married my Daughter Elizabeth one Black Horse that runs in ye woods. Item I give and Bequeath to my Dear and Beloved Wife Mary all the Rest of my Estate Real and Personal of What Denomination Whatsoever. Lastly I Doe hereby Nominate and appoint my Loving Wife Mary and my Trusty friend William Pope and and William Magoe my Executors of this my Last Will and Testament and I Doe hereby Revoke Disanul and make void all former Wills and Testaments heretofore by me made in Witness Whereof I Joseph Boykin have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this Eighth Day of November and in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Sixty Six.
