Will of Brittain Powell
N. Carolina
Duplin County
In the name of God amen. I BRITTAIN POWELL being sound in mind
but feeble in body & considering the certainty of death I do make this my last will and
testament as follows namely-
1st will that my body have a decent burial.
2nd will that my beloved wife have the use and benefit of all my stock of
cattle and hogs, house hold & kitchen furniture and crop; utencils of ever
kind during her natural life - after which be equally divided between my two
daughters namely MILLA JOHNSON and MARY C. BLAND.
3rd I give my negro boy BRITTAIN to my grandson AMOS JOHNSON.
4th I give my negro boy BEDICK to my grand daughter MARGARET
ANN JOHNSON.
5th I give my negro boy RICHARD to my daughter MARY C. BLAND
6th I give my son JOHN POWELL fifty cents.
7th I give my daughter LANY (?) BIVAN (?) two dollars.
8th I give my daughter ELIZABETH POWELL two dollars.
9th I give my daughter MARTHA POWELL two dollars.
10th I give my son ELISHA POWELL one dollars.
11th I give my son ISAAC POWELL fifty cents.
12th I give my son JACOB POWELL fifty cents.
13th I appoint ALFORD WARD Esq to execute this my last will and testament.
14th I make and ordain this to be my last will and testament revoking all
others by me made. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and
seal this the 23rd day of August A.D. 1838-.
In presence of A WARD DAVID WELLS his BRITTAIN X POWELL mark (SEAL) State of North Carolina Duplin County Court of Pleas & ??????? ?????? October Term, 1838 The Executor of the within will is duly proved in open court by the ????
of ALFORD WARD and of the subscribing witness thereto and is ordered to be
recorded.
