This information is contributed by Don Matthews Daniel Merritt was mentioned in Arthur Matthis' 1833 pension application before the Duplin County Court of Appeals and Quarter Sessions as an eyewitness to Arthur's militia service on two of Arthurs five separate Revolutionary War militia tours. Since Matthis was awarded a pension for his service, Merritt's military service on those two tours is proved also. Merritt was said to reside in Sampson County in 1833, but he was still a Duplin County citizen and Duplin County militiaman at the time of the Revolutionary War. |
