a#BURTONBURTON posted by Bob Burton in Florida on Monday, April 24, 2000

My earliest known ancestor was Tannington BURTON (c.a.1800-1851). He was supposedly born in NC and was in Burke Co, GA 1821-1825. I have reason to believe that he may be associated with a Charles BURTON (b. bef 1775-1831), who appears in the 1820 census in Burke Co, GA. I believe that this Charles BURTON is the same person that sold 20 acres, located west of the N. E. Cape Fear River, between Grove Creek and Persimmon Creek. I believe a Watson BURTON (died in 1825)also lived in this area and may be the father of Charles. His wife's name was Polly. Watson's parents appear to have been William and Priscilla BURTON. Please let me hear from you if you can provide any insites into this family.

While checking on your Duplin Co. page, I was unable to obtain information on the BLAYLOCK family (said it was not on the server). Help, I have several Blaylock members of my family. Also, I was looking for information on the "HUGHES Cemetery in Duplin County. I found a record on FamilySearch Ancestral File that Jesse James SUMMERLIN was buried there on Feb. 15, 1864. His father was James H. Summerlin. I'm hoping that James H. was buried there as well. He was the father of Giles Everett Summerlin who was the father of my grandmother Beulah Summerlin who married Calvin Arthur TYNDALL. Their son Paul Anderson Tyndall was my father. Help! Let me hear from you. By the way, I don't know where this cemetery is located in Duplin Co., either. Perhaps you can tell me where to find it. Thanks,

I am searching for information re: Howells in Duplin County, NC. Joseph Dudley HOWELL, b. 1879 d. 1946, was the son of Ver "Troy" HOWELL and Nannie Elizabeth KORNEGAY. Joseph's nickname was "Jody," and in some places that is listed as his given name. Joseph married Ella Agnes BLIZZARD, dau. of Jesse James Blizzard and Elizabeth WILLIAMS. Both Jody and Ella are buried in the BLIZZARD family cemetery in Duplin Co. I understand that the KORNEGAY family was well-known in the area during the 1800s. Troy died in Nash County, but the family moved between Nash and Duplin frequently. Troy was born 12/30/1856 and died 6/21/1930. He was married at least twice, maybe more. I am trying to find more details of his family--ancestors and descendants. I only have, through my grandfather's memory, that Troy's parents were Joe HOWELL and Betsy CRAWFORD, again, probably nicknames. Troy had a nephew named David "Dave" Edgar Howell, but I have no information on Dave's parents to follow the connection. I am also interested in Blizzards, but I have sent a separate query. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I am searching for information on the ancestors of Ella Agnes BLIZZARD. I believe her parents were Jesse James BLIZZARD and Elizabeth WILLIAMS. She was born 11 July 1885 in Duplin Co, NC. Jesse may have been born 25 Sep 1853, the son of Charity Blizzard or b. abt. 1856 in Lenoir Co, NC. I have also seen a Jesse James Blizzard who married Alice Winefred JONES in 1904 in Duplin Co, NC. I do not know if this was the same person. Ella and her husband, Joseph Dudley HOWELL, are buried in the BLIZZARD family cemetery in Duplin County. Is anyone aware of the location of this cemetery? Has it been surveyed? Are the deceased listed anywhere on the internet? Are there other earlier BLIZZARDS in this cemetery? I am Ella's great granddaughter. She died approx. 1978. I am also interested in the Howells of Duplin Co, but will list a separate query. Thank you for any help you might be able to provide.
