a#HERRINGHERRINGm#MCDOWELLMCDOWELL posted by Richard C. McDowell on Tuesday, May 6, 1997

I have been working on McDowell and Herrin(g) lines that were supposedly born in Duplin County NC during the late 1700s. I have a John Templeton McDowell b. 07 Jul 1788 in Duplin Co, and Desbermona (Destimony) Herrin(g)b. 1791 in Duplin Co. They were married in 1813 in NC. Based on information prepared by Sonny Sykes for the Duplin Co Internet page, I am trying to determine if the McDowells and Herrin(g)s came to Duplin Co with Henry McCulloch as that original group of Scotch-Irish settlers in 1736 from Ulster N. Ireland. Do you have any information that can help me with this search? I would appreciate any leads that you might provide.

a#HICKSHICKSm#WEEKSWEEKS posted by James R. Strickland on Wednesday, May 14, 1997

I have a major mystery that probably can be solved in Duplin County, NC but not sure how to proceed.

Thomas Hicks b March 13/1723/24 in Brunswick Co., Va, died April 6, 1775 in Duplin County, NC, married Thankful Weeks (daughter of Benjamin Weeks). Thomas is supposed to be the son of Daniel Hicks of Virginia. There are several Thomas Hicks in the Duplin County area at the same time and I am not sure (or need some type of proof ) that my Thomas is the son of Daniel Hicks. Any suggestions??

Do you have any Duplin referenced that might identify the Hicks families in Duplin in the early to mid 1700's.

My father, current relatives, and many ancestors lived/died in Duplin Co. around and in Mt. Olive, Faison, and Turkey. Anyone interested in the surnames Lane and/or Jones? I'm in California, so difficult to say the least to get genealogy info. We're traced back to a 1700's Patrick Lane who immigrated from VA. Several ancestors fought in Civil War and some in Rev. m#SANDERSONSANDERSON posted by Dale Boyd on Monday, May 26, 1997

Looking for info on Sandersons in Duplin Co. & Jones Co., NC. My earliest known Sanderson is John Sanderson (b: 5 Sep 1822 in NC, d: NC, unk). He married Susan Johnson (b: 28 Dec 1829, NC, d: unk) on 8 Aug 1849 in Duplin Co., NC. The bondsman at the wedding was Lewis Sanderson (possibly John's brother). John & Susan's children by the taking of the 1870 Census appear to be Mary A., Margaret or Maggie (my GGGGgrandmother), Martha A., John W., Elizabeth, Julia and Isaac. John was a CSA vet ending his service with the 66th NC INF. John's ancestors & descendants other than my line are unknown. It's possible these Duplin Co., NC, Sandersons are related to Sandersons later settling in Alabama.
