Posted Apr 3 2012 I am a descendant of George Miller and Margaret McCullogh of Duplin County. I am trying to find information on the death of his daughter in law, Mrs. Winifred Miller (wife of Col. Stephen Miller), his granddaughter in law Mrs. Rachel Winifred McIver and her child Stephen George McIver. They all died in 1836. First the baby in June 16, 1836, then his mother (Rachel McIver) Oct. 6, 1836, then 12 days later her mother Mrs. Winifred Miller Oct. 18, 1836. Did they all die because of an accident? I live not far from where Stephen and Winifred Miller's son, George is buried in Old Town Florida. Interesting story on him. He died there in 1833 and his grave now rest in the middle of a cow pasture near the banks of the Suwannee River. I am 3 times the great grandson of Jacob Miller who came to New Bern with DeGraffenried. I am also a descendant of John Martin Franck also a founder of New Bern. I am also a descendant of Dr. William Houston of N.C. (famous for resigning as tax master). My ancestry runs deep in North Carolina, mostly in the counties of Craven and Duplin. Any help in solving the mystery of the deaths I mention above is appreciated. Email direct at:
