Excerpts from Pleas and Quarter Sessions of Duplin County Court October 16 1809

    County Court begun and held for the County of Duplin at the Court House thereof on the 
    third Monday of October, being the 16th day of said Month 1809.
    
    Present: The Worshipfull Daniel Glisson, Edward Pearsall, Wm. Southerland,
    James Maxwell, John Hufham, Esquires.
    
    Upon motion [ordered] Alexander West, a child of colour now about sixteen years of
    age, be bound apprentice to John Hufham till he attain to the age of twenty-one years
    to learn to be a farmer and to get his living by labour. Ordered the Clerk file up
    Indentures.
    
    -The Grand Jury being called, answered to their names on the panel, to wit:

    Ordered that Merrit Manning, Constable, attend the Grand Jury.
    
    Jeddediah Blanchard, Michael Boyet and Ruben Blanchard are appointed Patrolls for
    the lower end of Capt. Herring's Company.
    
    The Petit Jury qualified, to wit:

    Upon motion Ordered that Jerry Davis Nobles, a minor now about nine years of age,
    be bound apprentice to Burwell Williams till twenty-one years of age to learn to read
    the Bible and write and cypher as far as the Rule of Three and to labour. Ordered that
    the Clerk file up Indentures. Pd. 6/-.
    Ordered that George Lewis Nobles, a minor now about five years old, be bound
    apprentice to Burwell Williams to learn to read the Bible and write and cypher as far
    as the Rule of Three and to labour. Paid 14/-. Ordered the Clerk file up Indentures.
