Obituary of Stacy Jackson Evans ~ 2005

Greenville -- Stacy J. Evans, 84, died Monday.
The funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at The Memorial
Baptist Church. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial
Park.
A Duplin County native, Mr. Evans attended Campbell University. He
served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the
South Pacific. In 1956 he began working for the Agricultural Stabilization
& Conservation Services (ASCS) office in Duplin County. He moved to Pitt
County in 1961 as assistant ASCS manager and served as executive director
until he retired in 1975.
Mr. Evans was a member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge # 284 A.F.&A.M.,
the Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Gideons International
North Camp. He also was a member of The Memorial Baptist Church, where
he had served as Deacon for many years and taught the C.J. Ellen Sunday
School Class. His hobbies were gardening and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Baker Evans; a daughter, Althea Evans
McNairy and her husband, Sydney, of Winterville; three sons, J. Keith
Evans and his wife, Dorothy Hooks, of Mount Olive, Steve J. Evans and
his wife, Debbie Statler, of Greenville, and Phillip B. Evans and his
special friend, Barbara, of Mount Olive; six grandchildren, Eric
Nolen-Weathrington, Jason Weathrington, Cassie Evans Williamson, Kelly
Price, Elizabeth Evans and Austin J. Evans; a great-grandchild,
Nolen-Weathrington; and five brothers, Wendell Evans of Magnolia, Ed M.
Evans of Wilmington, Harold Evans of Wallace, Darwin Evans and John
Evans, both of Mount Olive
He was preceded in death by a sister, Eldred Evans Wells of Kinston.
The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Wilkerson
Funeral Home.
