Obituary of Ralph Batts ~ 1986

Ralph Batts, 83, of 223 Morreene Road died Friday in Coble Health Care 
Center after a long illness.
He was a native of Duplin County but had been a Durham resident since 
1930. He was a former employee of Lance Inc., where he worked for 23 
years. He was last employed as a salesman for Taylor Biscuit Co., where he 
worked for 10 years. He was a member of McMannen United Methodist Church, 
where he had previously been a Sunday school teacher and a member of the 
choir.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in McMannen United 
Methodist Church by the Rev. Wilbur Jackson. Burial will be in the church 
cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Irene Blalock Batts; two sons, Ralph Batts 
Jr. of Baltimore and S. Thomas Batts of Durham; a brother, Alton Batts of 
Gainesville, Fla; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Clements Funeral 
Home.
Pallbearers will be David R. Batts, Daniel E. Batts, Evan O. Batts, David 
E. Shifflet, Robert L. Shifflet and Roger T. Coates.
