Obituary of Leon Frederick Rooks ~ 1985

Wilmington -- Mr. Leon Frederick Rooks Sr., 74, died Wednesday night in 
New Hanover Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Rooks was born in Pender County on Sept. 21, 1910, and was the son 
of the late Daniel and Maggie Gurganious Rooks.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Betty Humbles of Castle Hayne; three 
sons, Mr. Fred Rooks Jr., Mr. Billy Rooks and Mr. Dwight Rooks, all of 
Wilmington; two sisters, Mrs. Edna R. Keith and Mrs. Madeline R. Deal, 
both of Penderlea; one brother, Mr. Lloyd Rooks of High Point; 12 
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Watha Methodist 
Church with the Rev. Terry Coats officiating. Burial will follow in the 
Watha Methodist Church Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Bobby Johnson, Charles Reynolds, Buren Anderson, 
James Wilkins, Ronnie Rooks and Bill Humbles.
Mr. Rooks' body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the 
service.
The family will receive friends at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Friday 
evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and at other times will be at the home of 
Dwight Rooks, 1114 James Place, (Kings Grant), Wilmington.
